The Fiddler welcomes Alffa!
Alffa – an apt name for a band which have achieved so many firsts in such a short period of time. Currently still only teenagers, they became the first artist to have a track in the Welsh language reach a million streams on Spotify, ‘Gwenwyn’ (Poison) currently stands at over 3m and another Welsh single the band released subsequently called ‘Pla’ (Plague) also broke the million mark. Their 1st English release ‘Full Moon Vulture’ was released in July and gave a nod to the fact that the forthcoming album would be bilingual.
Two years ago Alffa were rehearsing in a church vestry in Llanrug near Caernarfon, a steady stream of success ensued – they won the Welsh National Eisteddfod’s ‘Maes B’ Battle of the Bands, got signed by indie label Recordiau Côsh, received immense Spotify playlist support – and today are on the cusp of something big. It would be easy for the lads to get carried away with their achievements, but both are currently well grounded and are studying Audio & Music Production at John Moores University in Liverpool.
Dion and Siôn have been very eager to release their album, hardly being able to wait so that the crowds who come to see them in their numerous live shows can hear the new tracks. They enjoyed a fruitful year of gigging, memorable moments coming from an incredible showcase at The Great Escape, a beautiful evening with their huge fan Michael Sheen at The Homeless World Cup, finishing off the summer with a cracker at Cardiff’s Swn Festival.
